The Toronto Hakka Heritage Alliance held their 6th annual Toronto Hakka Festival. This year, it was part of the Scarborough Summerfest 2019. This event is supported by Service Canada and the Scarborough Town Jazz Festival. It was held at the Chinese Cultural Centre from July 12 to July 14, 2019.

An alliance of 11 Hakka Associations within the Greater Toronto Area, representing diaspora from China, India, Jamaica, Malaysia, Mauritius, South Africa, and Trinidad & Tobago, had representatives present. Lilian Lee-Shanok stood in for our president Lorrie Ming-Sun and represented the CCASA.

There were festival booths which included Chinese knotting, paper folding, brush painting, calligraphy, and herbal medicine. There were a variety of Hakka foods available at the food booths, such as hakka noodle, hakka style chicken and dried mushroom, braised pork belly, stuffed bitter melon, stuffed tofu, chili chicken, jerk pork, etc.

There were several cultural dance performances and the featured performance was the Trinidad & Tobago Chinese steel band ensemble who were on a short visit to Toronto. They recently performed in China and were on their way back to the West Indies.
