Hakka Heritage Exhibit Inauguration Ceremony

The Toronto Hakka Heritage Alliance invited CCASA to attend the unveiling of the Hakka Heritage Exhibit Wall at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto, 5183 Sheppard Ave E. Toronto, where the exhibit is mounted on the wall and is on permanent display.

The Hakka in Toronto who contributed to this Wall are originally from China, India, Jamaica, Malaysia, Mauritius and Trinidad & Tobago.

In attendance were 400 Hakka and friends representing the diaspora from China, Guyana, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Malaysia, Mauritius, South Africa, and Trinidad. Many dignitaries were present including from Toronto, the Deputy Consul General, Zhuang Yaodong and Consul Li Sining from the People's Republic of China. Present also was Carol Wong. Among her many committee positions, she is a founding board director of the Toronto Hakka Heritage Alliance and an organizing member on the Hakka Heritage Exhibit Inauguration Committee. She served as president of the Tsung Tsin Association of Ontario from 2009-2013. Her current position at the Tsung Tsin Association is past president and one of the directors on the Management Board. Carol is a supporter of many of CCASA's functions.

At the unveiling were Robert & Shirley Ho (ex-Johannesburg), Lillian & Michael Leeshanok (ex- Port Elizabeth & Mauritius), Clem & Lily Leesui (ex- Port Elizabeth & Johannesburg) and David & Lorrie Ming-Sun (ex-Johannesburg and Grahamstown), representing the diaspora from South Africa.

CCASA members are encouraged to visit the Chinese Cultural Centre to see the Heritage Wall.
